閱讀下列短文,根據所讀內容在短文后的表格中填入恰當的單詞。注意:表格的每個空格只填一個單詞。
Educating girls quite possibly yields a higher rate of return than any other investment (投資)available in the developing world. Women's education may be unusual territory for economists(經濟學家), but enhancing women's contribution to development is actually as much an economic as a social issue. And economics(經濟因素), with its emphasis on incentives, provides guideposts that point to an explanation for why so many girls are deprived(剝奪)of an education.
Parents in low-income countries fail to invest(投資)in their daughters because they do not expect them to make an economic contribution to the family: girls grow up only to marry into somebody else's family and bear children. Girls are thus seen as less valuable than boys and art kept at home to do housework while their brothers are sent to school - the prophecy (預言) becomes self- fulfilling, trapping women in a vicious circle (惡性循環) of neglect.
An educated mother, on the other hand, has greater earning abilities outside the home and faces an entirely different set of choices. She is likely to have fewer but healthier children and can insist on the development of all her children, ensuring that her daughters are given a fair chance. The education of her daughters then makes it much more likely that the next generation of girls, as well as of boys, will be educated and healthy.
Few will dispute that educating women has great social benefits. But it has enormous economic advantages as well. Most obviously, there is the direct effect of education on the wages of female workers. Wages rise by 10 to 20 per cent for each additional year of schooling. Such big returns are impressive by the standard of other available investments, but they are just the beginning. Educating women also has a significant impact on health practices, including family planning.

閱讀下列短文,根據所讀內容在表格中的空白處填入恰當的單詞。

         注意:每個空格只填一個單詞。

There are so many good reasons to send a child to camp.

When children go to camp, they are on their own, sometimes for the very first time in their lives. They have to decide what to wear, what to eat and which activities to participate in. As a result they develop confidence and independence.

As self-respect develops from learning to be on their own, children continue to try new activities. Also it is possible that they will engage in what they are unfamiliar with. In school, children do not experience success in the same way. Camp can be a school without failure because just having fun makes them a success.

One of the greatest benefits of a camp experience is that children develop social skills. In a camp setting, a good counselor will make sure that every camper is included in the activity and that each child interacts with the others in a positive way. They learn the give and take , and they learn how to work and cooperate. Something as simple as clean-up, is not only there to get the cabin clean, but to promote a team atmosphere of working together which in turn results in friendship.

The obvious benefit of camp is that campers make long lasting friendships. These friendships can often be unique and special because campers are living with each other and see the true personalities. Children learn to see others from a different viewpoint. Children tend to be accepted for who they are and do not have to be concerned about what they wear, what they are good at and how they look. This is because in a camp setting, respect and caring finally win out over materialistic objectives.

In a word, camp does give children fun, friends and fulfillment.

World’s Fairs originated in the French tradition of national exhibitions, a tradition that ended with the French Industrial Exposition of 1844 held in Paris. It was soon followed by other national exhibitions in continental Europe, and finally came to London where the first real international exhibition was held.

Since their start in 1851, the character of world expositions has developed gradually. Three eras can be distinguished: the era of industrialization, the era of cultural exchange, and the era of nation branding.

The first era could be called the era of industrialization and covered the period from 1851 to 1938. In these days, world expositions were especially focused on trade and famous for the display of technological inventions and advancements. World expositions were the platform where the state of the art in science and technology from around the world was brought together. Inventions, such as the telephone were first presented during this era. An important part of the image of World’s Fairs stems from this first era.

The 1939 New York World’s Fair and the 1949 Stockholm World’s Fair were different from the original focus of the expositions. From then on, World’s Fairs became more strongly based on a specific theme of cultural significance, and began to address issues of humankind. Technology and inventions remained important, but no longer as the principal subjects of the Fair. Cross-cultural dialogue and the exchange of solutions became defining elements of the expos. It was also during this time, specifically in the 1960s, that BIE organizers started calling World’s Fairs “Expo’s”.

From Expo’88 in Brisbane onwards, countries started to use World Expositions more widely and more strongly as a platform to improve their national images through their pavilion(展館), where a strong national image is a key asset(財產), pavilions became advertising campaigns, and the Expo a channel for nation branding. As well as cultural and symbolic reasons, organizing countries also use the world exposition to brand themselves.

Expo 2010 in Shanghai has been successfully held. 2017 will see a recognized exposition. 2020 will see a registered category of exposition. Bidding may begin as early as 2011 for this larger sized exposition. There are citizen efforts in American cities with the intention of bringing a World’s Fair back to the United States.
