     Jenny was a very kind and beautiful woman and before she got married, many men werc in love with
her. Many of them wrote to her, telling her how wonderful she was, how much they lovcd her and wanted
to marry her.
     Jenny kept all these letters. She tied them up with a red ribbon (絲帶) and put them away in an old
box. She never looked at them as she was happily married,  however. they werc a part of her life and
she did not want to throw them away.
     Jenny had a daughter. Sue was six. One day, Jenny had to leave Sue alone for half an hour. "Now be
a good girl," she said.  "Play quietly.  If you need anything, go to the lady next door."
    When she returned home, she asked Sue, "Have you been a good girl?"
     "Oh, yes, Mommy," Sue said.

     "How could you play mailman, darling?" Jenny asked. You didn't have any letters."

red ribbon. I put one in cvcry mailbox on the street. Wasn't I a good girl?"

It was Mothers' Day, but the young mother was a little unhappy, because she was 800 miles away from her parents. In the morning she phoned her mother to wish her a happy Mothers' Day, and her mother told her about the beautiful lilacs(丁香) in the garden. Later that day, when she told her husband about the lilacs, he said," I know where we can find all that you want. Get our children Peter and Lily, and come on," So they went, driving down the country roads.

There on a small hill, they saw a lot of beautiful purple lilacs. The young woman ran quickly to enjoy the flowers. Carefully, she picked a few here and a few there. On their way home there was a smile on her face.

When they were passing a nursing home(敬老院), the young woman saw and old granny sitting in a chair. She had no children with her. They stopped, the car and the young woman walked to the old woman, put the flowers in her hands, and smiled at her. The old granny thanked her again and again. She smiled happily, too.

When the young mother came back to her car, her children asked her, "Who is that old granny? Why did you give our flowers to her?".

"I don't know her," their mother said. "But it's Mother's Day, and she has no children. I have both of you, and I still have my .mother. Just think know much those flowers meant to her."

     Linda and her brother, John, saved money for many years. One day, Linda emptied her money
jar. "I would like to help other people with the money," she said. John also emptied his money jar.
     "We can do a lot for others with all the money," John said with a smile. "But who shall we help?"
Linda asked. "Let's help our neighbors, Billy and his sister, Rose. I have found that there are some
holes in their shoes," John said. "We could buy some new shoes for them," Linda said.
     Linda and John told their mother their plan. She was glad and took them to a shoe store at once.
Linda picked out a pair of shoes for Rose. John picked out a pair of shoes for Billy. They put the two
pairs of shoes into two beautiful boxes. When it was darker, John walked to Billy and Rose's house
quietly. He put the boxes near the door, and knocked hard, and then he ran away quickly.
     Billy and Rose came out. "Look! There are presents for us. Someone left them here," Billy said.
They looked around, but they couldn't find anyone. They took the boxes inside happily.
     The next morning, when Linda and John went out, they saw Billy   and Rose playing outside. They
were both wearing their new shoes. Linda and John were so happy because they could help others.
