Celebrate Earth Day

April 22 is Earth Day―a time of year when special attention is paid to environmental issues. It is an important day to the people of my home state of Oregon. Oregon is filled with thick green forests, and its residents（居民） are often actively involved in preserving its natural beauty.

I recently had the chance to interview Michael Carrier, Oregon's National Resource Policy Director, about the importance of Earth Day in our state. "Salmon（鱸魚） are very important to Oregon," said Carrier. He explained that Oregon is devoted to maintaining its salmon population. The government has raised more than $2 million for the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department （OPRD）. For some places, like the Oregon Zoo, Earth Day is every day, with special programs that encourage people to recycle throughout the year.
