Many teachers believe that the responsibilities for learning lie with the student.  31     a long reading assignment is given, instructors expect students to be familiar  32     information in the reading even if they do not discuss it in class or take an examination. The ideal student is considered to be   33   who is motivated to learn for the sake of learning, not the one interested only in getting high grades. Sometimes homework is returned with brief   34    (write) comments but without a grade.Even if a grade is not given, the student is responsible for learning the material assigned. When research   35   (assign), the professor expects the student to take it actively and to complete it with minimum   36    (guide). It is the student's responsibility to find books, magazines, and articles in the library. Professors do not have the time to explain   37    a university library works; they expect students, particularly graduate students, to be able to exhaust the reference origins in the library.Professors will help students who need it, but prefer that their students should not be too dependent on them. In the United States, professors have many other duties   38 teaching, such as administrative or research work. Therefore, the time   39    a professor can spend with a student outside of class is limited. If  40    student has problems with classroom work, the student should either approach a professor during either office hours or make an appointment.

閱讀理解。從ABCD中選出正確的答案。(每題2分,共40分)
It was a winter morning, just a couple of weeks before Christmas 2005. While most people were warming up their cars, Trevor, my husband, had to get up early to ride his bike four kilometers away from home to work. On arrival, he parked his bike outside the back door as he usually does. After putting in 10 hours of labor, he returned to find his bike gone.
The bike, a black Kona 18 speed, was our only transport. Trevor used it to get to work, putting in 60-hour a week to support his young family. And the bike was also used to get groceries(食品雜貨), saving us from having to walk long distances from where we live.
I was so sad that someone would steal our bike that I wrote to the newspaper and told them our story. Shortly after that, several people in our area offered to help. One wonderful stranger even bought a bike, then called my husband to pick it up. Once again my husband had a way to get to and from his job. It really is an honor that a complete stranger would go out of their way for someone they have never met before.
People say that a smile can be passed from one person to another, but acts of kindness from strangers are even more so. This experience has had a spreading effect in our lives because it strengthened our faith in humanity(人性) as a whole. And it has influenced(影響) us to be more mindful(注意的,留神的)of ways we, too, can share with others. No matter how big or how small, an act of kindness shows that someone cares. And the results can be everlasting.

A.go very far to see someone

D.enjoy the moment with someone
【小題3】We can infer from the text that ________.
A.the couple worked 60 hours a week
B.people were busy before Christmas
C.the stranger brought over the bike
D.life was hard for the young family
【小題4】How did people get to know the couple's problem?
A.From a stranger.
B.From a newspaper.
C.From TV news.
D.From radio broadcasts.
【小題5】What do the couple learn from their experience?

B.One should take care of their bike.

[1]For thousands of young people everywhere, college means taking their first big step into adult life. What you do in your first year of college can have a big effect on the rest of your college years. Here are some tips of mine for you.

[2]Plan ahead. By the end of your first week, you’ll know when you should finish each of your study tasks. Put those on your list. More importantly, you need to finish them on time. Start making good use of your time at the beginning of the term.

[3]Eat right. College students often gain weight in their first year. Without Mom and Dad planning your meals, it’s easy to lose track of just how many calories you’re taking in. Try to limit the fast food and keep a varied diet.

[4]Talk to your professors. College students tend to be afraid of their professors. Don’t be. They’re there to help you. Visit a professor during his or her office hours just to chat now and again. Tell them about a book you have read, or ask for advice. And, of course, ask for help, whether with a tricky point in your readings or with big life issues(問(wèn)題). If nothing of these, a professor can point you in the right direction to find the resources(資源)you need.

[5] Speak up in class. Ask questions, answer the professor’s questions, and share your opinion as much as possible. There are no points for sitting quietly anymore.

[6] ________. There are so many resources available(可得到的) in the library – magazines, videos, and of course, the books you need for your papers. Learn as much as you can about your library. Talk with the librarians about the resources available in your field.

The Internet is making the world smaller and changing every aspect of our lives. The impact of this, in my opinion, will be strongly felt in the field of education. There are three reasons for this.

First, the Internet provides equal opportunities for all students, as long as they can get access to it. In the traditional form of education, students who get higher marks in examinations may enter a good school, and those who do not, have to enter a relatively less good one. With the Internet, every student is provided with access to the same educational materials, so they have equal opportunities to improve themselves. In that case, the general quality of education will be highly improved in our country.

Second, the Internet presents a challenge to teachers. Traditionally, teachers have controlled education. With the Internet, a student may choose any teacher’s instruction as he wishes. Faced with this, a teacher is likely to try his best to improve his instruction to be attactive and this will in turn improve the educational quality of our country.

Last but not least, the Internet makes education more convenient for students. A student can learn at any time he likes and, at the same time, he can save the money spent on tuition and board. All of these may lead to a revolution in education.

It is true that the Internet may still remain out of the reach of some people and maybe less amicable (友好的) than human teachers. But the point is that the Internet is sure to accelerate the development of education in our country.

Theme

The Internet is strongly affecting 71. _________.

3) The Internet brings 77. _________ to the students and helps them save some money.
