Historic Centre of Rome

Founded, according to legend(傳說), by Romulus and Remus in 753 BC, Rome was first the centre of the Roman Republic, then of the Roman Empire, and it became the capital of the Christian world in the 4th century.

Ancient City of Damascus

Founded in 3,000 B.C., Damascus is one of the oldest cities in the Middle East. In the Middle Ages, it was the centre of a splendid craft industry, specializing in swords . The city has some 125 monuments from different periods of its history.

Old Havana

Havana was founded in 1519 by the Spanish. By the 17th century, it had become one of the Caribbean's main centres for ship-building. Although it is today a modern city, its old centre remains an interesting mix of Baroque and neoclassical(新古典主義的) monuments.

Ancient City of Ping Yao

Ping Yao, founded in the 14th century,shows the evolution(演變) of architectural styles and town planning in Imperial China over five centuries. Of special interest are the splendid buildings associated with banking, for which Ping Yao was the major centre for the whole of China in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Rainforests of the Atsinanana

The Rainforests of the Atsinanana are extremely important for keeping ongoing ecological processes necessary for the survival of Madagascar’s unique biodiversity(生物多樣性), which reflects the island’s geological history. Having completed its separation from all other land masses more than 60 million years ago, Madagascar’s plant and animal life evolved in isolation(孤立).
