題目列表(包括答案和解析)
A town in Oxfordshire has become the first in the UK to have biomethane(生物甲烷)gas from human waste piped to their homes for gas central heating and cooking.
Up to 200 families in Didcot now receive the gas via the national gas power system. Head of energy and technology at British Gas,Martin Orrill, said customers wouldn’t notice any difference as the gas is purified to the highest standard and has no smell. The gas is produced at a sewage(污物) treatment works in Didcot.
The entire process takes only less than three weeks, with the sewage being collected and sent first to settlement tanks. The solid waste material is then fed into digesters, where anaerobic bacteria(厭氧菌)digest the sewage, with the aid of enzymes(酶)to speed up the process. The digestion process produces methane, which can be burned to drive machines(甲烷)to produce electricity,or can be purified and fed into the gas network and piped to homes and businesses. British Gas says supplying the gas rather than electricity is far more efficient since around two-thirds of the energy is lost in producing electricity.
Partners in the Didcot project,British Gas,Scotia Gas Network, and Thames Water, all hope to expand the process to other towns, and other companies such as Ecotricity and United Utilities have also announced biomethane projects being planned. One of these projects in Manchester could be supplying 500 homes with biomethane by mid next year. Another British Gas project in Suffolk will provide gas from digestion of brewery(啤酒廠)waste to around 235 families.
The Didcot project cost£25 million and was influenced by promises of government aids aimed at encouraging companies to develop renewable technologies. An EU directive means the UK must ensure at least 15 percent of its energy is from renewable sources by 2020.
The UK produces about 1.73 million tons of sewage annually. If all sewage treatment works in the UK were fitted with the technology, they could supply gas for up to 350, 000 families.

China’s second manned(人造的) space flight will be done by two astronauts(宇航員) over five days in 2005. “Shenzhou-VI will be sent into space sometime in 2005,” said Zuo Saichun, a spokesperson of the China Aerospace Science and Technology (CAST). “The spacecraft(宇宙飛船) will make new breakthroughs(突破性進展) in China’s manned space technology.”
Unlike Shenzhou-V, a little more than a year ago (in October, 2003), the next flight will see two astronauts fly in space for five days. Their capsule (太空艙) is designed to be capable(能夠)of orbiting(繞軌道運行) for a whole week, the spokesperson said. “For the first time, astronauts will enter and live in the orbital module(艙) of the spacecraft to do scientific experiments,” said a statement from CAST. CAST did not say what those experiments will be.
In Shenzhou-VI, scientists have changed the spacecraft’s configuration (構形) to reduce its weight, and tried to improve the performance of on-board equipment. They have also worked to make sure of the energy supply of the spacecraft and further improve its safety. So far, scientists have worked out ways to solve problems on environmental control and life support. Shenzhou-VI will be sent into orbit atop(在……頂上) a Long March 2F rocket.
Meanwhile, a model of the Chang’e-1 satellite is expected to be sent to orbit the moon in two years. The satellite, part of the three-stage programme, would be followed by the landing of an unmanned vehicle on the moon in the second stage by 2010 and collecting samples(樣品) of lunar soil by 2020 in the final stage, according to Sun Laiyan, director of the China National Space Administration.

B. Shenzhou-VI will be sent into space in 2005
C. what China’s space programme is
D. how China’s three-stage programme is carried out
Will Nanfang University of Science and Technology in Shenzhen announce a new beginning for China’s higher education reform? It’s too early to answer. But its presence is challenging the Ministry of Education. Even without the approval of the ministry it seems that the school is determined to move forward and enroll(招收)50 students, so-called child prodigies(奇才), to begin classes on March l, 2011.On graduating in 2015, these students will receive a diploma unauthorized by the Ministry of Education-unlike the students of their age from the state-run universities.
The school is committed to modeling itself on Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, but if the government will not approve the school, the situation could cause a lot of trouble for those 50 students if they want to do graduate studies at other higher learning institutions. Other schools could turn their applications down for their unauthorized diplomas.
The difficulties, however, have not frightened students and their parents away. On Dec.18, 2010 more than 1,000 students and their parents visited Nanfang University of Science and Technology for interviews.
Private investment marks the school out from other higher learning institutions in the nation. Not a penny comes from the government. So the government will have no voice in how the school will be run.
The Ministry of Education has published a comprehensive plan for education reform and development between 2011 and 2020.The goal is to make China’s higher education internationally competitive. To accomplish this goal, the government should have the courage to let the educators who have big ideas try them out. The ministry should have applauded the independence the school in Shenzhen has shown and encouraged more to do likewise.
Education reform in China has reached a new and crucial stage. Nanfang University of Science and Technology has a long way to go to prove itself competitive rather than a diploma mill.
1. What will makes those 50 students different from others?
A. They are all child prodigies.
B. They will study much longer time.
C. They are willing to challenge the Ministry of Education.
D. They will receive an unauthorized diploma.
2. Over 1,000 students and parents visited the school because .
A. they believe that the school will have a bright future
B. they believe the government is sure to approve the school
C. the school models itself on Hong Kong University successfully
D. they will never do graduate studies at other higher learning institutions
3.The trouble the students in the school may have is that .
A. the government will have no voice in the school
B. they won’t receive any diploma when graduating from the school
C. other schools are unlikely to accept their diploma from the school
D. they will not learn how to be competitive
4. What does the author think of Nanfang University of Science and Technology?
A. It is another kind of diploma mill.
B. It’s impossible for the school to be competitive.
C. It will never get the approval from the Ministry of Education.
D. Its independence from the government may benefit the education reform.
5.What is the best title of the passage?
A. University of New Style. B. China’s Education Reform.
C. Modeling Hong Kong University. D. Authorized or Not?

A report has recently been published about what the earth might be like 20 years or so from now on. The report is a result of a three-year 46 .
According to the report, the picture of the earth in the year 2020 is not a 47 one. The world will be more 48 because the population will continue to grow. The population could be 49 9,000 million, almost 3,000 million more than that in 2009. More people would move into cities, especially cities in 50 countries. Cities in India and Thailand probably would 51 have a population of 20 million by then.
Food production will 52 , but not enough to feed all the people. Farmers will grow 90% more food than they did in 2009, 53 most of the increase would be in countries that 54 produce enough food for their people. Little increase is 55 in South Asia, Africa or the Middle East. Poor farming ways are 56 large areas of cropland, changing farms into deserts. More farmland is 57 as cities become larger and more houses are built. 58 will get worse as developed countries burn more coal and oil. Many of the world’s 59 could disappear as more and more trees are cut down. Energy will continue to be a serious problem. The experts say their 60 of the earth for the year 2020 may be wrong. They only 61 the situation as it is today. By changing the situation, by 62 the problems, the picture can be changed. There is 63 time for the nations of the world to 64 a plan of action. But they considered that 65 too long to make a decision would greatly reduce the chances of success
