閱讀下列短文,并根據所讀內容在文章后表格中的空格內填入最恰當的詞.( 每空1詞)

In a society such as America or Canada, which has many national, religious, and cultural differences, people highly value individualism—the differences among people. Teachers place a lot of importance on the qualities that make each student special. The educational systems in these countries show these values. Students do not memorize information. Instead, they work individually and find answers themselves. There is often discussion in the classroom. At an early age, students learn to form their own ideas and opinions.

In most Asian societies, by contrast (對比), the people have the same language, history, and culture. Perhaps for this reason, the educational system in much of the Orient (東方) reflects society’s belief in group goals and purposes rather than individualism. Children in China, Japan, and Korea often work together and help one another on assignments. In the classroom, the teaching methods are often very formal. The teacher lectures, and the students listen. There is not much discussion. Instead, the students recite rules or information that they have memorized.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both of these systems of education. For example, one advantage to the system in Japan is that students there learn much more math and science than American students do by the end of high school. They also study more hours each day and more days each year than North Americans do. The system is difficult, but it prepares students for a society that values discipline (紀律) and self-control. There is, however, a disadvantage. Memorization is an important learning method in Japanese schools, yet many students say that after an exam, they forget much of the information that they have memorized.

The advantage of the educational system in North American, on the other hand, is that students learn to think for themselves. The system prepares them for a society that values creative ideas. There is , however, a disadvantage. When students graduate from high school, they haven’t memorized as many basic rules and facts as students in other countries have.

請認真閱讀下列短文,并根據所讀內容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一個最恰當的單
詞。注意:每個空格只填1個單詞。請將答案寫在答題卡上相應題號的橫線上。
Have you heard or read stories about people who are sick and have been healed by listening to music? Is it a miracle or a successful form of medicine? Can listening to music relieve pain?
Around the world, music therapy(療法) is being used to treat different medical conditions and illnesses. Some of the ways people use music therapy are to reduce pain, such as in childbirth or during cancer treatments,or to stimulate brain activity after an injury or money loss. Music therapy has also been successful in aiding children to overcome disabilities. Children can move their bodies with the music and stamp along to the beat.
Why is music a useful therapy? Music is soothing and relaxing.but it also stimulates our brains. Emotionally and physically, we respond to the sounds of music. But the complexity of music(the different tempos, rhythms, melodies and harmonies) provokes(激發)the biggest response. Thus, classical music is most typically used for therapies due to complex sounds and patterns. Although rap or hip hop might be fun to listen to,it’s unlikely that such styles of music would produce the same kind of therapeutic effect Playing a musical instrument rather than simply listening to music can also be therapeutic for some people, helping relieve stress and anxiety
Have scientists been able to prove that music can heal disease? Music has been shown to reduce pain in cancer patients by increasing the release endorphins(內啡肽). Endorphins are the body’s natural painkillers, and when we listen to music, our brains respond by releasing these natural painkillers. It has also been known to contribute to the brain development of the babies who have just been born and even babies still in the mother’s womb. Certain types of music have also been found to lower blood pressure and slow a person’s heart rate. Many people are hopeful that music could replace the need for some medications(藥物)that are normally used to treat certain illnesses. At present, music therapy is used in a variety of settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, day cares, and schools.
Although music therapy is not yet considered a mainstream treatment,it is recognized more and more as a useful addition to traditional treatment. So next time you are feeling low or stressed out,put on some relaxing music and let the music heal you.

Weddings are so important in China that couples are willing to fork out about 20 times their monthly
income on getting hitched and everything that comes with it.
China's newly-weds in cities spend 126,600 Yuan (16,600 U.S. dollars) on average in 2006 when getting

Chinese young couples in the cities tended to buy an apartment and a car before tying the knot.

The introduction of computerized information systems has greatly affected management control in many companies. Even a neighborhood shopkeeper may now use computers to control sales, billing, and other activities. In large companies, electronic data processing systems monitor entire projects and sets of operations.

Before the widespread use of computers, managers could not make full use of a large amount of valuable information about a company's activities. The information either reached managers too late or was too late to be used. Today, managers are facing plenty of data processing and information instruments. In place of a few financial controls, managers can depend on computer-based information systems to control activities in every area of their company. On any kinds of performance measures, the information provided by these systems helps managers compare standards with actual results, find out problems, and take corrective action before it is too late to make changes.

Now, there are about 220 million microcomputers in use in the United States---9 for every 10 citizens. It is estimated that by 2016, 90 percent of American managers will be using some sort of electronic work station. In order for managers to be sure that the computer-based information they are receiving is accurate, they need to understand how computers work. Although in most cases they do not need to learn how to program computers, managers should understand clearly how computerized information systems work; how they are developed; their limitations and costs; and the manner in which information systems may be used. Such an understanding is not difficult to achieve.

One research has found that business firms are more successful in teaching basic information about computers to business graduates than they are in teaching business subjects to computer science graduates.
