The "invasion(人侵) ”of English words into the Chinese language must be stopped,the country's senior translator says.
Huang Youyi? of the International Federation of Translators,one of the country's largest publishers,says words such as OK， bye-bye? nice,modern and guitar are coming into everyday Chinese and causing problems. Mr Huang said, "If we do not pay attention and if we do not take measures to stop Chi?nese being mixed with English,Chinese will no longer be a pure language. But Gu Yueguo,of the Institute of Linguistics at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences,said,"If we cleaned out all the borrowed words,less than half of modern Chinese would be left. Borrowing words from other languages is happening all over the world. It is a positive sign of cultural exchange and as-similation(吸收) .There is no way that China can close the door.”
