Of all the things that have effects on your future, I believe that personal growth is the greatest. Many people talk about sales growth, profit growth, and possession growth, but none of these will happen without personal growth. In fact I’d like to have you memorize a most important sentence. It is “The key to your future is you yourself.”

There are many things that will help you better your future. If you belong to a strong, dynamic(充滿活力的)and progressive company, that will help. Good training will help. Strong leadership will help. If the neighbors stay civil(文明的), that will help. If your relatives don’t trouble you, that will help…All these things will help. We can go on and on with the list; but remember, the things that I’ve covered above just play minor(次要的)roles in helping you reach a good future. The major cause doesn’t lie outside. It lies inside.

Strangely enough, when two different men work in the same company, the first person may earn $1,000 a month, while the second may earn $10,000 a month. What causes the difference when they have the same job, use the same tools, and get the same training?

The cause of the difference lies in believing, in trying, in accepting failures, in thinking, in a smile at people around, and in the ways of dealing with problems. All of these can be major causes of your good future. You can see all these come from inside. In fact, the real difference is you yourself. You are the key to your future. Teens are the most wonderful and important period in life. If you want a great future, begin to improve yourself from now on!

72. Among all the things mentioned, which one is the most important in the author’s opinion?

A. Sales growth.           B. Profit growth.               C. Possession growth.     D. Personal growth

73. Which of the following may play a main role in influencing you future?

A. Being determined.                     B. Working in good companies.

C. Having rich relatives.           D. Getting leaders’ help.

74. All may cause the two men’s different earnings EXCEPT that_______.

A. the second person buys expensive houses or cars.

B. the first person treats others badly.

C. the second man has a positive attitude to problems.

D. the first man gives up after failures.

75. The passage is mainly written for_____.

A. old people                  B. adults                     C. teenagers             D. babies

I believe that everyone in the world loves their mother. So am I. My mother is  a  ordinary  teacher.  She works  hard at  school,  just as other mothers do every day. In fact, she isn’t good health. She have been suffering from arthritis(關(guān)節(jié)炎) for  many years. In spite of this, she never stops working or giving up hope. I still remember the day and when my mother received a card of congratulations for Teacher’s Day from her director. The card was read “Thank you for your hard works; Happy Teacher’s Day to you!” At that moment, I was so moving that tears came to my eyes. I am proud of my mother because she is my best teacher as good as my mother.

科目:高中英語 來源:2010-2011學(xué)年黑龍江省高三上學(xué)期12月月考英語卷 題型:閱讀理解

I had the meanest mother in the whole world. While other kids ate candy for breakfast, I had to have cereal, eggs or toast. When others had cokes and candy for lunch, I had to eat a sandwich. As you can guess, my supper was different from the other kids' also. But at least, I wasn't alone in my sufferings. My sister and two brothers had the same mean mother as I did.

My mother insisted upon knowing where we were at all times. She had to know who our friends were and where we were going. We had to wear clean clothes and take a bath everyday.

The worst is yet to come.We had to be in bed by nine each night and up at eight the next morning. We couldn't sleep till noon like our friends. So while they slept --- my mother actually had the nerve to break the Child Labor Law.She made us work.We had to wash dishes, make beds, learn to cook and all sorts of cruel things.I believe she lay awake at night thinking up mean things to do to us.

Through the years, things didn't improve a bit.We could not lie in bed, "sick" like our friends did, and miss school. Our marks in school had to be up to par.Our friends' report cards had beautiful colors on them, black for passing, red for failing. My mother, being as different as she was, would settle for nothing less than ugly black marks. With our mother behind us, talking, hitting and demanding respect, none of us was allowed the pleasure of being a drop-out.

My mother was a complete failure as a mother.Out of four children, a couple of us attained some higher education.None of us have ever been arrested or divorced. Each of my brothers served his time in the service of this country. She forced us to grow up into God-fearing, educated, honest adults.Using this as a background, I am now trying to raise my three children.I am filled with pride when my children call me mean. Why? Because now I thank God every day for giving me the meanest mother in the whole world.

1.What can we infer from the passage?

A.The author is not happy to have such a mean mother.

B.The author's mother broke the Child Labor Law to make money.

C.The author's mother failed to educate her children to be honest adults.

D.The author is strict with her children.

2.Why couldn’t the author eat candy for breakfast?

A.Because she preferred cereal, eggs or toast to candy.

B.Because her mother couldn’t afford for candy.

C.Because her mother thought it not good to eat candy for breakfast.

D.Because her mother had to give candy to the author’s sister and two brothers.

3.The author’s mother made her children work because _________ .

A.she had trouble falling into sleep.

B.she could not keep such a big family without her children’s help.

C.she was teaching her children to live by themselves.

D.she had no time to do the housework.

After my brother died in an accident , my mother was inconsolable(痛苦的,極其傷心的). I was only 4 years old at that time, but I still understood the seismic shift(地震的改變) in my mom’s attitude towards safety. Suddenly, everything around us was potentially dangerous.

I grew up with a lot of restrictions(限制)that were meant to protect me. I couldn’t walk home from school by myself even though everyone I knew already did. I couldn’t attend parties, or go to summer camp, because what if something happened to me. My life was divided into “things you should avoid” and “things you needed to do in order to have a good , long life”.

I became a natural worrier. I worried about things like getting cancert, losing my wallet, car accidents, and earthquakes-disasters big and small, real and imagined.

When I was 14, my mother died suddenly in a car accident. That loss, on top of my brother’s unnatural death, could have paralyzed(癱瘓) me. But at my mom’s funeral, I made a choice. I could either live out the rest of my life trying to be “safe” or I could be brave enough to live out a fulfilling, exciting and, yes, sometimes dangerous life.

I began constantly forcing myself to do the things that frighten or worry me. In fact, I’ve developed a rule for myself: If it scares(使….害怕) me, I have to do it at least once. I’ve done lots of things that my mom would have worried about: I’ve ridden a motorcycle, I’ve dived, I’ve tried rock-climbing, I’ve traveled a lot.

Courage(勇氣,勇敢) isn’t a natural attribute (性格) of human beings. I believe that we have to practice being courageous; using courage is like developing a muscle. The more often I do things that scare me, the more I realize that I can do a lot more than I originally thought I could. I’ve also come to believe that fear can be good thing if we face it.

科目:高中英語 來源:2010年黑龍江省高二上學(xué)期期中考試英語卷 題型:閱讀理解

The other day at the supermarket, I saw a naughty child of about six crying loudly, falling to the floor and refusing to move. All the while the troubled mother was trying to persuade him to behave well but failed. A little smack (摑打) on his bottom would have done the job, I thought.

Teenagers also cause discipline problems. As a teacher I had a 16-year-old student who had fallen in love with a waiter at a fast-food restaurant. In fact, she had left home to stay with him. So we decided to put her in the school hostel. She refused. When she heard her mother begging her to stay in the hostel she turned round and said: “Why don’t you stay in the hostel if you like it so much?”

My palms were itching to slap her for being so rude but the poor mother continued to cajole her, hoping that gentle persuasion would work wonders. It did not. The last I heard, she had run away from home again.

The list goes on and on. Could it be that today’s parents are softer and believe that they must not rod (棍棒懲罰) their children for fear of the bad result? Or do they actually believe that the children will get rid of the bad habits and behave well naturally as they grow older? I beg to disagree. I believe it is the parents’ duty to discipline the children even at a young age.

My children who are now adults will prove the fact that I used the rod when I thought it necessary. Later when they went abroad, they related to their British university friends on how they were disciplined. Their friends abroad were filled with horror and told my daughter that I could be charged for child abuse (虐待). However, my daughter paid me the greatest compliment when she told them that she would not be where she was today if not for my strict discipline.

1. According to the passage, the author would probably _______.

   A. beat the children every day        B. punish the children when necessary

   C. 1eave the children as they are      D. treat the children in a softer way

2.The underlined word “to cajole” (in Paragraph 3) probably means _______.

   A. to persuade      B. to scold       C. to forgive      D. to punish

3.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?

   A. The naughty boy’s mother hit him on the bottom at last.

   B. The teenager’s mother lived together with her daughter in the school then.

   C. The author was charged for child abuse by her daughter’s friends abroad.

   D. The author’s daughter was very thankful for her parent’s strict discipline.

4. Which of the following can be the best title of this passage?

   A. Respect Parents   B. Spoil Kids   C. Value Discipline  D. Protect Kids
