My mother used to ask me, “What is the most important part of the body?” When I was young, I thought   16   was very important to us, so I said, “My ears, Mommy.” She said, “No. Many people are deaf but still live a  17   life; keep thinking and I will ask you again.”
Several years   18  before she asked me again. This time I told her, “Mommy, sight is very important to everybody, so it must be our eyes.” She looked at me and told me, “You are  19   fast, but the answer is not correct. Many people are blind, but they still live happily.” Over the years, she asked me many times and always her answer was, “No. But you are getting   20   every year, my child.”
Then last year, my grandpa died. Everyone was crying. When it was our turn to  21   our final goodbye to him, my mother asked me, “Do you know the most important body part yet, my dear?” I was  22   when she asked me this. I always thought this was a game between her and me. I saw her eyes with tears. She said, “My dear, the most important body part is your shoulder (肩膀).” I asked, “Is it because it  23  up my head?”  She replied, “No. It is because it can hold the head of a friend or a relative (親戚) when he or she  24 . Everybody needs a shoulder to cry on sometime in life, my dear. I only hope that you have enough love and friends, so you will  25  have a shoulder to cry on when you need it.” That was when I realized what the most important body part is.

What’s the most important thing for you to have in your life? Somebody mentions hard-work, others suggest knowledge, love and luck.
If you arrange the 26 English letters alphabetically(按字母表的順序) and use numbers to represent each of them, for example, 1 for a, 2 for b, 3 for c…, you can change an English word into a number. So hard-work becomes 8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11="98," meaning 98 is its mark; knowledge: 11+14+15+23 +12+5+4+7+5="96," while love: 12+15+22+5="54," and luck: 12+21+3+11="47," a small mark. None of these words can give one a full mark. What about money or prayer(祈禱)? They can’t, either.
Then what else? Don’t be worried. You can always find an answer to a problem in your life, when you change your way of looking at things or doing things, or your attitude(態度).Yes, attitude is the word. See for yourself: attitude:1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5=100,a full mark.
Different attitudes lead to different courses of life. Most times people hope for a better life. It is possible that one will have a change for the better after one has changed one’s attitude.
When you change your manner and became friendly towards others, you’ll meet more smiling faces towards you. In the same way, if you take a positive (積極地) attitude towards failure(失敗), you’ll find it’s also rewarding though it has caused you losses.
【小題1】In the writer’s opinion, what is the most important thing in a person’s life?

A.Hard-work.B.Knowledge.C.Money.D.Attitude.
【小題2】According to the passage, if you meet with problems, the best way out is to _______.
A.ask for help from others
B.say your prayers to God
C.change your attitude
D.try maths-solving methods (方法)
【小題3】From the passage we can learn that ______.
A.different attitudes come from different courses of life
B.mathematics can solve every problem easily in our daily life

Have you ever had the strange feeling that you were being watched? You turned around and, sure enough, someone was looking right at you!
Parapsychologists (靈學家) say that humans have a natural ability to sense when someone is looking at them. To research whether such a “sixth sense” really exists, Robert Baker, a psychologist (心理學家) at the University of Kentucky, did two experiments.
In the first one, Baker sat behind unknowing people in public places and stared at the backs of their heads for 5 to 15 minutes. The subjects(受試者)were eating, drinking, reading, studying, watching TV, or working at a computer. Baker made sure that the people could not tell that he was sitting behind them during those periods. Later, when he questioned the subjects, almost all of them said they had no sense that someone was staring at them.
For the second experiment, Baker told the subjects that they would be stared at from time to time from behind in a laboratory setting. The people had to write down when they felt they were being stared at and when they weren’t. Baker found that the subjects were no better at telling when they were stared at and when they weren’t.
Baker concludes that people do not have the ability to sense when they’re being stared at. If people doubt the outcome of his two experiments, said Baker, “I suggest they repeat the experiments and see for themselves.”
【小題1】The aim of the two experiments is to ________.

A.explain when people can have a sixth sense
B.show how people act while being watched in the lab
C.study whether humans can sense when they are stared at
D.prove why humans have a sixth sense
【小題2】The underlined word “outcome” in the last paragraph most probably means ________.
A.valueB.resultC.performanceD.connection
【小題3】 In the second experiment, the subjects _________.
A.could tell when they were stared at and when they weren’t.
B.could tell when they were stared at but couldn’t tell when they weren’t.
C.couldn’t tell when they were stared at but could tell when they weren’t.
D.couldn’t tell when they were stared at or when they weren’t.
【小題4】What can be learned from the passage?
A.People are born with a sixth sense.
B.The experiments support parapsychologists’ idea.
C.The subjects do not have a sixth sense in the experiments.
D.People have a sixth sense in all places.
